How long does the SES light stay lit once tripped?
Hello, what is the duration of the SES light being on once triggered? Does it vary depending on the code triped? On my 2001 it would stay on for days (forget code, but it was for Catalytic converters not doing their job). My sons 1999 tripped a code last night and today it has already extinguished even before I could get the code from it. I thought a "drive cycle" had to occur to turn the SES light off.
Also, is it ok to do emissions testing now. I read somewhere if a scan tool turns off the SES light a certian amount of time and "drive cycles" must happen before the PCM is fully "ready" and will fail a OBDII emissions test. If the light goes off byitself do you still have to wait for the PCM to reach the ready state? Any help is greatly appreciated.
