still not as bad as your northern neighbor. How bout paying 50% tax on gas, 15% sales tax on everything but food, 450 for registering a car at 5.7 litre engine size. They take about on avg 55% of your income goes to taxes, here in quebec, and thats not including the other taxes i mentioned, thats just fed/provincial income tax.

ehh, most Canadians dislike the healthcare, waiting in lines, take a ticket, its run like a business, ive been to one clinic, last time i go back. Inside was like a african UN tent it seemed, lol, rags everywhere, some blood, guy didnt speak english at well at all and his french was bad to boot. When i was in the states i paid 54 a month for healthcare, dental, optical. If i want the same coverage, i have to pay about 74 a month PLUS all the stupid taxes so if add up the cost, its not worth it. For any major surgery, i would be scared to be operated here, just how i feel, since if they screw up, there's not much i could collect if they messed up and i was hurt for life. Still can't get a family doctor...

Time to move back home Mike... if she loves you, she'll come with you.
What can you do about taxes, nothing.... talk to a good accountant and find out what you need to do to decrease you're taxable income. A good example is a flexible spending account for healthcare. They pull out pre-tax money that gets put into an accout to which you pull from to pay for anything medical. This includes doctor visit co-pay, medicine (prescription and OTC), and it also is good for kid stuff too like formula and diapers. This way you are using pre-tax dollars to pay for it, you lower your taxable income and with other deductions, you can get into a lower taxable bracket.
I also joined our counties HAZMAT team as a volunteer which also gets me a tax deduction. Everything counts, spend your money wisely, figure out what you can do to lower your taxable income level and you should be better off.

right before i moved up, it was a shitty job, but the benefits were decent, add on the avg increase of healthcare and you still don't equal what i would be paying just for dental, prescription coverage from the provincial government.
so say 54 dollars 2 years ago, well say maybe today it would be 70 bucks, but that still covers a lot and to me much cheaper. Ive lived in the states and ive lived here the past 2 years. You get taxed on tax here . Maybe it would be a decent deal if they didnt charge so much tax elsewhere but if you add up how much the avg canadian pays in taxes a month extra just for the Social Health insurance, it adds up to more than what most people would pay for a private plan.
and for the grammar police

i live wherever it is most comfortable to live at the moment. i didn't have a burning desire to serve in the military, so i moved. what of it?
i know idiots such as yourself in a lot of countries - ones that possess, what seems like, one brain cell. so i'll tell you what i've been telling others - **** off
