Default AC Idle Pulley HELP!

Ok, I've pinpointed my squeaking and squealing down to the A/C Idler pulley, but how do I get that thing off?

Do I need a pulley puller tool? Where can I get / rent one and how much will it cost?

Thanks guys

I do beleive its just bolted on with a 15mm headed bolt. Its not to hard to change. Leave the main belt on. Just slide the ac belt off the idler pullies and remove the tensioner. Reverse to replace. I think it gets torqued back at 37 ftlbs.

I got it off, Its a Torx head. But it seems like that pulley might be ok, it spins very freely but makes a little noise. How can you tell for sure if the pulley should be replaced ?

Ya, after you said torx bit, I remembered thats what it was. On mine you could see where the bearing was getting hot around the outer edge. It made more of a humming sound more than a squeeling noise.

Well i found it!, it was the main drive idle pulley. One question though, the belt move back and forth a bit on the new pulley is this normal until it wears a groove into the pulley?

Mine doesn't move. If its an older belt it could have some play in it.They will stretch over time. You might need a new belt. Sqeeling could also be coming from the belt as well.

Yea this belt seems fairly new it still has the green strip on it relatively unfaded. I thought I fixe the squeaking but its happening in more than one place. Replacing the idler pulley quieted it down at idle but past about 1500 RPMs it squeals. I'm thinkin it might be the tensioner because it seems like it lets the belt a little loose when the RPMs climb... does that make sense?
