Default Fuel Guage is "Hunting"?

the stock fuel level guage "hunts" when I turn the key to "on". It kinda floats around a bit around where it SHOULD be but goes to near full when I turn the car n and start driving. It doesn't change any while driving. Throughout the life of a tank it only reads full, almost full, and empty. Is a ground bad on the tank? Is it in the dash? What should I do for my gas guage to be normal again?

I have the same problem on my Silverado. A computerscan revealed a "high voltage" reading from the gas sensor. Don't know how to fix it, but I've heard you have to get into the gas tank to fix it.

raejenls1, perhaps you could help me with mine. My gauge moves around... a lot. Whenever I start the car up, it usually reads a 1/4 tank lower than what I have and slowly comes up as i drive. Today, i started it up and it read a 1/2 tank, which i knew was too much. After driving for a few moments, it swept straight past empty. Then it did its usual 1/4 tank climb.
