Default Safe?: HPP3 tuning, GMAF, and 100 octane fu

I have heard that if you use a programmer and a aftermarkter maf that your timing will be too high and detonate. If this is so couldn't you run a higher octane fuel and eliminate that problem?

Just an idea.
