Default cam trigger query

I dont really get these dual path triggers..

I have an LS1, and I'm using a different PCM. For sequential operation it needs a single tooth on teh cam trigger.

I ground the LS1 trigger off, and welded/ground until I had one large single tooth.

The air gap would be very small less than 0.040", yet no matter what I do I cant get the cam sensor to give any output.

Would I have been better with a single tooth, only on one half of the circle ringing the camshaft, similar to the LS1 normally has ? rather than the full width ?

Bit of a bollox now, as the engine is completely built and in-car.

How do the sensors read the 2 different trigger wheels on these engines ??
