Default Defective Hooker Long Tubes??????

I have the Hooker super comp Long tubes on my camaro now. I have the air tubes and the egr blocked off. I was driving down the highway, getting on it pretty good for about a solid 10 min stretch. All of a sudden the area on the headers where the air tube connects to the headers completely blew out on the drivers side and came out under the car on to the highway. I now have a hole in the headers at that spot about the size of a quarter. I have had them on the car about 8 to 10 months. They are NOT COATED with anything for rust or heat protection.

It looks like the weld got too hot and came loose from the header. Is this normal? I have not heard of this happening before to anyone. I took my car to an exhaust shop today so they can patch it up. Is this going to happen on the other side also?

I called Hooker and my only options are to remove them from the car send them in and they will replace them. This is my daily driver. I can not afford to pay labor twice again to have them remove the headers and put new ones on. I cant afford a rental car for a couple of weeks either. What else can I do??? Any suggestions? Thanks

I have heard of this happening. The last person had removed the AIR styuff from his car anyways. So he just had the hole welded shut. That is what I'd do because I also removed the AIR and EGR!

Hooker said if I do any kind of modification to the header they will not replace it under warranty. I asked how am I supposed to drive it like that. They said they are sorry and they could not help with that. I can not buy one side either. I have to buy a whole new set. Just spoke with the exhaust shop and they are going to have to cut the tube and weld a new one for that cylinder. I am not worried about the quality of work from that shop. They make custom headers for drag/race and street cars frequently. They are going to charge $160 to $200 to fix including labor. I think a new set would cost me $170 plus shipping and 2 installs for labor. One to take the old ones off and one to put the new set on. I guess I will let them cut it off and replace it. Is this a good or bad idea?????

Just have it welded up.

Cost me $20 to have the local Harley Davidson custom place do it in ~15 minutes.

(mine also blew a nice hole in the primary.)

Well at least it makes me feel better that I am not the only one this has happened to. I am picking the car up today. Hopefully this will be the end of it. Hooker and their shitty welds. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
