Default bought hooker lt's and i need a y-pipe i dont want to use theirs

i was told that the hooker y-pipe is a piece and i would not like to use it. Does anyone know of any other y-pipes out there that would work with my hooker lt's?

thanks

I used the Hooker ORY-pipe, and don't have any problems with it. Can I ask why you don't want to use theirs?

Get one custom made, that's what I did. Best $250 you could ever spend.

Mufflex make one for the hooker headers. Looks pretty promising it has 2 3" inlets into 4" collector from flowmaster.

I have the Mufflex Y on my car. It's a very ugly Frankstein looking Y pipe, I call it the FrankenPipe.

Mine was NOT bent properly and had to be cut a part and rotated then welded back together to get it to fit on the car. SRP installed of my heads and cam package did installed the Y & headers at the same time. They fought with the "custom fit" Y pipe more than anything else because the parts I got didn't line up right as it came from Mufflex. I paid $285 for the pipe. It's nice once it's installed. The 3 inch primaries into the big 3.5 merge collector into 4 inch looks pretty impressive. Other than the passenger side needed cutting and rewelding it fit fine, tucks up tight and doesn't bang. It should have fit for what it cost and it didn't. Sometimes that sort of thing happens

Most don't seem to have the fit problem my car did, so I don't think most of Mufflex's Y's are like the one I got. But if you get the Mufflex pipe beware, run into an issue like my car did.

I went with the Mufflex because it will allow cats to be fitted.

I would NOT purchase the Mufflex Y pipe again.

I think you have the Hooker Y confused with Mufflex.
All the Mufflex units I have seen look like horse dung. Frankenpipe is putting it nicely. Then on top of that it is almost twice the price of the Hooker part.

The Hooker parts I have seen looked awesome, sweet bends, great welds... really smooth. The fit is like a glove and hugs the car like the stock exhaust. You are the first person I have heard talk smack about it and yet I get the feeling you have never seen one.

Stay away from custom units unless they are mandrel bent. Mandrel benders at the corner muffler shop are pretty much non-existant, they cost more than most muffler shops. I have seen a few custom bent exhausts where the guy was told the pipes would be mandrel bent... but you can look right at them and see the crush bends. You hate telling a guy he got screwed, but oh well.
To put it in perspective, 3" non-mandrel pipe won't flow with a 2.5" mandrel pipe. If you get a custom Y, might as well shoot for at least 3.5" pipe so it will flow on par with Hooker's 3".
Just a heads up.
Good luck
Dave

I think I am going to go with the QTP y-pipe w/ electric cutouts. Looks like a pretty trick set-up. I bought the new Jet Hot headers and haven't bought a y yet.

I don't think my hooker y-pipe is all that bad looking. It does have those dents in it, and it sits far enough down from that car so that those dents are not needed. But other than that it seems ok.
One thing about installing those headers, is my car really needs a new clutch now. I thought it slipped bad pre-headers.

I JUST BOUGHT HOOKER lt'S AND THEIR Ypipe, the y pipe is sweet and merge is very clean. Anyone who thinks it wont flow great should really learn about hot gasses under pressure! Small dents in it are irrelevant, 2 3/4" outlet where cat back systems slip on is only hinderance to flow, but almost all y pipes do this to make them work with common cat back systems. Im thinking of having Hooker y and my Flowmaster cat back expanded at this joint so it will be true 3" all the way.

The Mufflex looks like crap. I have one on my car. I know that for a fact it is as nasty looking cobbled up Y pipe.

My Hooker headers looked nice, but the quailty was crappy. I've not seen the Hooker Y, I hope the quailty is better than the quailty of the headers I got.

The Hooker Y looked ok from what I've seen. It's my understanding it is harder to fit cats in the Hooker Y than the Mufflex Y.

If I had it to do over, I would have a custom built set up with mandrel bends as my personal preference over either the Hooker Y or Mufflex Y.

As for flow, I never said anything about how either flow.

My Hooker Y and LT's fit great! They fit up so tight that I actually needed the dents in them to keep them from hitting. They barely hang down as low as my ground effects. (about the same as the stock exhaust)
I don't understand if you don't trust Holley to make a quality product, then why did you by the LT's? Not meant as a shot, It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

if you base your decision on the performance of a y pipe based on what it looks like, then you think like a ricer. custom race headers and other custom pieces often are pieced together. the mufflex y pipe will make at least 5 hp more than the jet hot y pipe on a cam only car, probably at least 10 on a heads/cam car. the jet hot y pipe doesn't have a collector, and collectors are proven hp makers. so if you want a good looking y pipe (everyone sees your y pipe because you park on mirrors, right?), get the jet hot one. if you want to make more hp, get the mufflex. we are fortunate that we can make that decision; more choices mean happy consumers.
