00-02 lids require a breather filter? What is this all about?
I went to go order a lid from Thunder Racing and it says on their website that the 00-02 model cars require a K&N breather filter and the whole assembly is like $20 more. Do you have to have a lid with a breather if you replace it with the stock one for emmissions? Can you get a non-breather lid for a 2000 model car with no problems? Thanks...

All the filter does it go in place where the tube hooks to the silencer that is no longer there when you add a lid. You can pick them up at Checker or Autozone for $10-15.

Yes, you need the extra little filter. As noted above, it goes on the 1"-ish diameter hose that is plugged into the driver side of the OEM air filter lid.
The hose is for the AIR system.

I just read that the SLP lid has a provision for the AIR tube. The lid has a built in bung to plug that tube into (just like the stock box) and you don't need a breather filter. It's also $30 cheaper than the Whisper lid...so $30 combined with the no $15 is $45 saved...enough for a Holley filter! Thanks for the help guys. SLP's willingness to address the issue and make new lids for the '00+ cars scored them my business.

LS1 Motorsports includes the breather with their Direct Flo lid. Just specify that you have a 00-02 car and they'll hook you up.

I have the SLP lid with the white letters and don't have any problems with it rubbing on my hood.

i have the SLP lid with the provision for the tube and unless they redesigned the lid when the made the SLP letters white the hose that sticks out of the lid will rub on the underside of the hood. i just plugged the hole in the lid and use a little filter that i got for @$5 at autozone on the hose.
dustin
ps. i think that they redesigned the connection neck that you would connect your air tube to, just be carefull that it does not rub you hood.
