Need a measurement on a 17" wheel

Need a measurement on a 17" wheel I would like to find out if I could use a 17 inch wheel with my big brakes. I need to find what the inside measurement is on one. With the caliper on the rotor, the assembley is 14 1/4 inches across. I've been told that I have to run a minimum 18 incher, but I would rather have 17's so I can run dr's.
