Re: cracking lids?
My MTI Lids never cracked at the MAF. They always cracked in the "tab" section at the rear where the lid is incerted onto the car. And yes I did say "Lids" I had two of them do the same thing, Jason replaced it the first time for free. Mine would last about 2yrs or 10K miles before they would crack. This last time I went with a SLP lid and it seems to be made of a less brittle material. It does rub the top of the hood though.

FWIW, I have the MTI black lid and I use a Fernco hose for my bellows. Initially, the lid wasn't fitting properly and the tabs weren't in the lower airbox/radiator shroud slots fully. I trimmed down my Fernco and the lid fits perfect now. Maybe your issue resides with your bellows and not your lid.

Re: cracking lids?
...My lid does not crack or rub; It does not seal against the bottom air box, however....
It is the age old problem of poor design and manufacture of after-market hot rod parts....we should all wise-up and return the JUNK that does not fit or that breaks prematurely...I would not mind, but this cheap plastic part is priced at over $100 and cost a few cents to manufacture....
Another example: My $1300 headers bang like hell and smell like burning tar!

I agree with you to a certain point. However, I am appreciative that people out there make these parts for us. You'd be surprised how much money goes into R&D and production. They have to make it back or it's a pointless effort. Agreed though, some parts are priced far too high.

Re: cracking lids?
Mine cracked the first 90 days I had it. Right where the 2 seams meet by the MAF. It also rubs on the hood. I did call about it, and was told that they have never heard of it hitting the hoods, like I was making it up, or it was the first complaint they had heard.
However, I can get another for a reduced price. I felt it should have been replaced.
