Default Oil change....

At what % of oil life remaining do you guys change you oil at???

My oil is looking quite dark at 37%, used to look good at 50% when the engine was stock. About 3500 miles on this interval, half the miles driven were on the expressway, and the other half were racing around and going hard on the eway above 120-160+ Sorry I am addicted to speed.

Just looking for input. Got 8 qts and new filter in garage waiting to go in very soon. 8 qts because I have a built in oil cooler.

I actually let mine go down to zero and keep going! My oil life monitor hits zero after about 7000 miles, and on my last interval I took it to 9000 miles.

I get oil analysis done at the end of each oil change though, so I know my oil is still in good condition.

That's interesting, I don't think I can go that far though. Makes me nervous.
I know that Mobil 1 oil is good stuff but I am putting a lot more stress and strain on all my internals now that I am putting down 473 rwhp 431 rwtq. Are you running stock, or heavily modified and running to 9000 miles between changes?????? I had my oil checked after a couple of times when I first got the car, and it was stock. At 5000 miles the oil looked and tested good, but I was taking care of my baby. Now at 3500 miles my oil is quite dark. I am a little concerned about a modded engine breaking the oil down so quickly. Thanks for the reply.

Mine is pretty close to stock, but I do drive it hard. I would recommend you do an oil analysis to help you figure out what oil change interval works best for your combo. It'll also help you choose the right oil too.

Thanks for the input. I will go get my checked. We'll see if the 37% indicator is right, or the dark blackness that most synthethics are when they are used up. As I said before, when I was running bone stock the oil looked brand new at 3,000 miles. I knew I was changing early for added protection.
I wonder if I should keep up that practice since I have all this money into the motor and car now. I'll see what oil test results say first. 8 qts + filter isn't cheap. (8qts built in oil cooler)
This is my first my oil change since the oil cooler went on, I hope there isn't any problem getting all the use oil out of the lines and coolers. I'll let you know.

Where do you go to get an oil analysis and how much does it cost?

Sorry nothing local. I'll have my buddy do it at the dealership, he won't charge me.
At least I hope not.

Check out www.blackstone-labs.com

It's about $20 or so for the test

between 3000 and 3500.I live in rochester and can only drive about that many miles a summer, its not my daily driver. Its a 2000 and i just turned 16k this weekend.I change it right before i store it,so it sits all winter with good clean oil.And i just started using amsoil euro 5w-40
