Default Is the coolant sensor bad????

I have a 98 Z and my low coolant light came on...the little window with the arrow pointing down...thing is the temp gauge measures cool..and I checked both the reservoir and the radiator and they are both full...I have no leaks...cause I check for that everyday in the morning just for piece of mind....and the car doesn't even come close to overheating....temp gauge sits between 60 and the next little line......My buddy Felton 316 told me its probably my sensor that went bad and as long as my car isn't overheating....I shouldn't worry.......he also told me that I could disconnect it and the light would go away or buy a new sensor and replace it for about 40 bucks......He said he had the same problem with his car and that's what he did.....what should i do?.......Would it be okay to remove the sensor or replace it?...........car runs great....so no overheating is going on!

First try taking the sensor out, cleaning it off and reinstalling it. I did this about three years ago and haven't had a problem since.
