Default problems with alarm...help

i just bought a 99 TA, heres the symptoms...the security light is on in the gauge cluster, the alarm still arms itself when i lock the doors with the door switch and still goes off a few seconds after being opened, and the keypad doesn't work. I'm thinking the previous owners replaced the keypad and never syncronized it with the alarm. what do i need to do to correct this?

The keypad doesn't work at all? If it's completely dead could be the battery in the remote. If the battery is good I'd try reprogramming it first and see what happens. Make sure the resistor on the key is clean too.

From the owner's manual:
If you’re ever driving and the SECURITY light comes on
and stays on, you will be able to restart your engine if you
turn it off. Your PASS-Key II system, however, is not
working properly and must be serviced by your dealer.
Your vehicle is not protected by the PASS-Key II system.

If you lose or damage a PASS-Key II ignition key, see
your dealer or a locksmith who can service PASS-Key II
to have a new key made. In an emergency, call the Pontiac
Roadside Assistance Center at 1-800-ROADSIDE or
1-800-762-3743. (In Canada call 1-800-268-6800.)
If you want to change how your alarm systems arms / disarms / etc., I have that section of the manual on my website. http://xomixx.com/archive/ls1/features.html
