Default Typically, how muh to make your own turbo kit?

Ive always loved the f bodys but was thinking of buying an 03 cobra due to the fact its already got FI. but i decided to get the car ive always wanted and build it to have way more power then a cobra so if i get an ls1 ta and build my own turbo kit, how much will it cost? it will be a T76 turbo and id be getting all the tubing and makin it all myself.

Thanks
Jesse

tubing is a few hundred for mild steel
manifolds are under a hundred
turbo is 1800? maybe
WG 400, bov 250?
FMIC 250?
fuel is 1000 easy, probably more like 1500
couplers, hose, fittings, supplies, etc. 1000 (just to be safe)

That's around 5500 or so and I think that's a safe guess, although I haven't added in tuning, broken parts, anything you want to do to the motor at the time, drivetrain, etc, etc. I say like 5-6k is a good estimate.

NineBall is selling a ton of parts (tubing, turbo, wg, etc, etc) for 4k right now. Add fuel and tuning and you're set. O

bviously used stuff is cheaper so its really a guess. I mean, you could end up using like a holset or TV1xxx turbo used for a few hundred bucks along with a cheap bypass (instead of a bov) and a used wg you can find for like ~200. That saves you 1000-1500 right there. Fuel and tuning is what I'd really spend the money on.

if you dont have a welder, factor that in too. and a chop saw/band saw. a bench grinder for cleaning up your cuts. welding helmet, gloves, clamps for holding pipes, etc.

I have been shopping around for months waiting for parts to come up cheap. I am a couple months away from putting everything together. If all keeps going well i will have under $5k in my forged motor, truck manifold turbo kit, price of car, and suspension If you shop long enough you can find good deals.

use stainless pipe sch. 10 butt weld elbows from mcmaster.com my whole hot side i have about 150. into minus flanges. check out pics in signature link. Also they are not the flimsy .065 stainless that will crack under heat and vibration. I think they are .109 thick.

it has been done for under 3k(no tuning just the parts to turbo the car) I personaly was shooting for that goal but i bought other stuff too so my total bill is right around 4k. I had things like a cam and a TQ before i decided to turbo also.

i agree to some extent. You can pick up a used sts kit for anywhere between $1500-3000. then add springs (150), pushrods (150), better fuel (60lb injectors 400 and pump $300), plus a decent intercooler setup (500-700), boost/other guages (100), boost controller (100), maybe a cam (350), well then youll need a hard bottom (5000) and maybe some new rails (400), oh and....you get the point. it wont be cheap so it all depends on what your shooting for.

If you wanna put down a stockish cobra maybe even a stock blower with a pulley (so one makin 450-500rwhp) then id suggest just a well done rear mount. Pick up a used 60/67 trim and have a shop fab the intake piping. No money needed for exhaust piping. get a decent bov/wg and oil pump along with rods, springs and a FMIC. also the needed fuel. and you should make 400-450 on 5-8psi and spend under $2000. id start with a safe tuned 6 psi kit before jumpin into a nice $5k setup. it wont run like a well done 76 single kit but if done right itll wake up the car and keep you from blowin up your bottom end.
