what pushrods for LS6 cam ?
7.400" or 7.425" ? Seems like a dumb question, but I have to ask...
I have an LS6 cam, unmilled LS1 heads and I am using hardened 7.400" pushrods.
I have been putting some breakin miles on the new setup and noticed a definate 'tick' when using some gas pedal and putting the engine under load (uphill, etc).
Been doing some reading and have seen people use both, but do I need 7.425" pushrods ? How many people here are using stock 7.400" pushrods with the LS6 cam - and do you have valvetrain noise under load ?

I'm just concerned with the valvetrain noise and any damage that could result... I've read that some are using 7.400" - do those cars have a lot of valvetrain noise under load ?
Running the 7.400" pushrod won't hurt anything will it (until I can get the 7.425" ones) ? The lifter preload will just be off a little, correct ?
Meh, I shoulda done more research when it was decided that my old cam was trashed and I needed to go with the LS6 cam.
Thunder's site and the SDPC LS6 kit say the base circle is .050 smaller, but I haven't read of anyone using a 7.450" pushrod...

You should be fine running shorter pushrods, most people on here are running shorter ones with their cams, hence the sewing machine noise. You just won't take full advantage of the cam until then, there is really nothing dangerous about it though from what I know.

Pushrod Length
I have a Crane Cam in my LS6 and had the same question. What size push rods? I got an adjustable push rod of the proper length and installed it. I adjusted the length of the push rod to get zero lash on the rocker. Removed the push rod, measure and
add .030. This gave me 7.31 on both the intake and exhaust valves.
