ASP crank pulley problem!
I had a ASP crank pulley installed on my car last Friday. The install went well, but when I put the long accessory belt on it seemed real tight. The tensioner was straight in line with the outer most indicator. The mechanic that did the install said that it was kind off odd but said it should be OK.
I drove the car approximately 65 miles over the course of the weekend. While returning to my apartment at 1:30 AM this morning my power steering and alternator stop working and my check gauges light come on. My engine temp begins to rise so I shut her down on the side of the interstate. Guess what?... the belt is gone.
I have one of my buddies drive 40 min. to come and get me, take me to a 24-hour Auto Zone that is 45 min. away and then drive 45 min. back to my car.
While at Auto Zone I purchased the recommended belt size ASP recommends and one that is one inch bigger just in case. I buy the best belts they sell, Goodyear gatorbacks.
I put the bigger belt on and it was just a fuzz to big so I put the recommended belt on and it fits perfectly. The tensioner is exactly where the manufacturer recommends it to be.
Why does this belt fit perfectly and the other was almost too tight? Did the other belt break and fall off or did it just ride off because it was too tight?
I purchased the original belt from Thunder Racing, I have given Thunder Racing a lot of my business over the last couple of years, for my car and my dad's vette. I have never had a problem with any of the products they sell until now.
Sorry for the long post just looking for some insight and wondering if there has ever been any similar problems?

Re: ASP crank pulley problem!
It sounds to me as if the belt may not have been installed properly...
It's pretty easy to have it hang on the edge of a pulley somewhere during the install, in which case it would have a tendancy to walk itself off gradually while driving.
Just a thought... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
