Default Removing alternator

I need to have my alternator rebuilt. No parts stores carry one for my car and the dealer wants $300.00 No way am I paying that much for an alternator. I'm going to tackle this tonight. I was just wondering how difficult it will be to remove. Anyone ever done this on an F-Body? Anyone have a write up on the removal and installation of an alternator. Thanks for the help

I dont have a writeup, but its easy. Just get the front end on ramps, get under the car, and remove it from the bottom. Make SURE you disconnect the battery first.

The hardest part will be getting the weatherpack connector disconnected from teh top....gonna have to try and get a flathead screwdriver to pry up the tab and pop the connector off BEFORE you remove the alternator (or you'll stretch the wire!). Total I think its 3 15mm bolts and 1 13mm bolt for the big power cable bolted to it, and one weatherpack. Thats it (I haven't done it in a while tho). Should take 30 minutes your first time, 10 minutes your second time.

It isn't too bad. There is a small bolt in the back of the alternator and two in the front. The other in the front just hold the bracket to the block. I took this out as well. I remover the bracket and it gave me a little more room to work.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure it won't be too difficult. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

That is what I have to plug into my alt, but there is only one red wire to hook these wires up to. acdelco site shows this part number and the dealer only had this for me. What is the deal?
