Default About to start up my brand new engine

So I just installed a brand new TSP built forged 347ci engine with new CNC ported ls6 heads, and brand new ram stage 3 clutch, along with everything else in my sig.

So my question is whats a good breaking in process, what should I expect, and what should I look out for?

I'd just go easy the first couple hundred miles, don't do extended hwy driving, and no burnouts lol. Then change the oil and have fun!

pretty sure that your supposed to start it up till it gets up to running temp (around 30 minutes) then shut it off change oil to make sure there is nothin "strang" in there...

imj not sure what u look for though on a first fired engine though...i guess like i said just lookin in your oil for metal and things

dont lug the motor around town, keep the rpm's up and the motor loaded especially the first 100 miles or so...change the oil after the first 500 miles, then every 1000 miles till 3000, then regular change intervals after that

Rings dont seat good without some pressure. When I did mine I ran it hard (not crazy hard) up to about 60 then let the off the gas and let the engine slow the car down to suck oil up into the cylinders. I did that 4 times then changed the oil and tore up the streets.

5200 miles later it still uses maybe 1/2 of a quart between changes.

Note: if you dont get the rings to seat within the first 50 miles or so they will never sink in right.

Make sure you have oil pressure within the first 5 seconds after starting it up, shut it off right away if you don't!

engines will break or break in. i would suggest keeping it off the rev limiter until you've changed the oil, which i would do after a few hours of operation. then drive it like you stole it...or however it is you normally drive.

1st - I would break it in as the builder states to......as they will ultimately be the ones to accept or deny any responsibility for a failure.

As for a break-in, as stated above - change the oil after a good warm up of the engine (gets the install lube and any particles out of the engine), then after 500 miles and regular intervals after that. Also stated above
** watch your oil pressure closely **.

Use "dyno" oil for the first 3000-5000 miles to insure propper seating before going to a synthetic.

Vary the engine RPM's under load; personally I would not go above 4 grand for the 1st 500-1000 miles.

Best of luck ! !
