Default Big Question on a $100 run!

Hey whats up everyone? My buddy called me the other night to inform that another friend of his is gonna put his 02 16v gt m5 up against my 98 ls1 m6. Not only does this guy wanna make a run, he wants to put a benjamin down on the race. Now believe me, I have straight up owned quite a few gt's but damn this guys cocky. From what I know, he has cold air, 3.73's, short throw shifter, catback exhaust and an x pipe with a possible tune. Me on the other hand have catback exhaust, throttle body bypass and a k&n filter only. One very important factor is that I recently gutted my cats and haven't got the o2 sims yet so I do have an SES light on and my timing has been slightly retarded from the code. It is a noticeable drop in power but I still feel confident in taking the gt. Should I run the guy for fun or put it all down? BTW I work at sears for like 9 an hour so $100 is a chunk of change for me...lol. Be quick with responses because this race goes down like tommorow and I should post a vid up of the results. Also his friend has a new 5.9 cummins with chip and exhaust that wants to put $50 down on a race but I plan on just taking that **** money straight up...lol.

If you doubt your car in any way, I wouldn't put up 100 bucks. The guy might have some stuff you don't know about, besides the mods: Think Nitrous. It might just be me, but it seem odd that a GT owner wants to slap down 100 bucks on a race with (of all things) the mighty LS1. Just my .02.

Ask to look at his car and see if he has any nitrous lines going into the intake at all. If it looks clean then race him! You will win, but careful those stangs go some good launches out of the whole.

You ever had your car at the track? What kinda tires do you have on the car? I mean I haven't had any problems with any Mustang GT's but you can see from the sig I have head/cam setup. But around here... the best I see GT's run with bolt ons as you said is like 8.8-9.2 or so in the 1/8th... maybe mustang guys around here can't drive though? I think you will pull him but that is me. If you can launch I think you will win. Is it 1/4th? If so you should definately eat him up top end.

Thanks for the responses so far. The race will be a quarter and thats why I'm so confident. I know that stangs with bolt ons can really chop from 0-60 but an ls1 pulls so damn hard from 60-105 and they can really do some damage at the top end. I also think that embarrassment will play a bigger role than the 100. Im just gonna make sure that I dont miss a gear. It may cost me a little but whats 2 tenths for safe shifting compared to 2 seconds for a rev limiting miss right.

I would go for it if he is truthfull about his mods. My roomate has almost the exact same list of mods on his 02 GT, except with 4.10's, and I have walked him pretty good a couple of times, back when all I had was a lid. Maybe a different story if your car isn't running right. Still, no matter what, check to see if he's got juice.

Lets know how she went, I think the GT guy has something up his sleeve. You cant tell me he hasnt run LS1's before...he has a GT, you LS1 guys always play with us when you can. Something is not right here. Did he JUST get the car or something?

you shouldnt have anything to worry about just check for spray . My neighbor has a gt with 4.10 and all the other boltons and when i first got mine with just a lid i got him by 4 cars to 90, and gts around here with those mods run anywhere from 8.80s to 9.30s so it shouldnt be a problem

Uh, yeah.

Why don't you just race him? If you don't have confidence, don't put up the money. Simple as that. BTW, Bolt-ons GT's are slow.

Dude you should have this race forsure, o and if you want just a little more power take your air filter out before you race, but remeber to put it back in after. Thats what I do, cant feel it or anything but I am sure it helps more air get in obviously.

I had a 02 gt before the mach and you should take him. I also had the same mods and the best I ever got out of it was a 13.6 on street tire so.... i'm sure you will get him. but like everyone said look for the lines lol

Thanks for the replies and I think im gonna go ahead and run him. One other question is that like I said, my timing is retarded because of hollow cats with not o2 sims. It took like 100 miles for the code to get thrown after the mod and during that 100 miles the car ran bad *** but like I said once the code was stored the pcm retarded the timing to prevent "damage" to components. Should I just reset the pcm before the race so the pcm feels like everything is ok.

i have the same problem with my 99 ss. i have a custom y-pipe without cats and my ses light is on b/c no o2 sensors. i dont think its that big of a difference. i know the computer is set to default or retardes the timing, but not by much. maybe im wrong, just from what ive researched. u should beat him anyway. go win some money!

Couple things...

1. I would never bet 11 hours worth of pay on a race, especially if your car isn't at 100%.
2. I would be careful of that truck, if you dont launch perfect and the run isnt to anything over 100, he could get you. They respond well to "chips".
3. Becareful because you could be out about 17 hours of pay before you know it. Run him for fun now.

You should have no prob beatin this guy. But like the guy above said, MAKE SURE to remove your airfilter before you race this stang, you will hit V-tec much faster.
How about a 50$ race against an LT?

Default Moving on, anyone interested??

Fadi is tied up with work, and 1BADAIR is non responsive. Is there anyone in the area within 50 miles or so of Detroit who would like to get out and run? Not necessarily race, just run them and post the video. The more high quality videos that get posted, the better the site is. Anyone interested please PM, or email me................I am suffering from withdrawal. LOL. After Fadi put the smack down on me, I need some more pratice. Hats off to Fadi and that bad *** C6 ZO6...........
