how does it increase lift specifically. Does it change the location of the fulcrum or the shape of the rocker arm? What does ratio refer to btw?

yes i would assume it changes the geometry by changing the curve of the arm or how much "lever" is on the pushrod side and how much is on the valve side of the "fulcrum". the ratio refers the difference in input movement to output movement. on a 1.8 rocker it the pushrod moves 1 unit the valve would move 1.8 units
to figure out how much lift you will gain by switching rockers. take you at valve lift and divide by your current rocker ratio then take that number and multiply by your new rocker ratio.
