posi and limited slip

I guess all axle/differentials that tranfer power both tires could be called a posi. While a limited slip it just a type of posi. Like all motors with 8 cylinders arranged in a V are called V8, and the LT1 and LS1 are just different V8's

i could have sworn i read somewhere that some guy said he had posi in his camaro and people argued up and down that no, he had limited slip and there was a difference.... but anyways, thanks for the answers

Posi is nothing but GM's brand name from the 60's for limited slip. They used to call it Posi-traction. Other people called it trac-lok, power-trac, traction-loc, sure-grip, etc. They are all limited slips. A spool is not any type of posi because it isnt a differential at all (since it doesnt allow different speeds to each wheel- which is what the word differential or limited-slip differential implies).
