whats the skinniest wheel that a 275/40/17 can fit on safely?

Default whats the skinniest wheel that a 275/40/17 can fit on safely?

I have a pair of 275/40/17 tires im trying to sell a friend. his wheels look to be 17x8? will a 275 fit on that safely? thanks for any help

and if it matters, the tire is a goodyear gsc.

I think GoodYear specs the minimum width at 9.0" for a 274/40/17.

9" is the minumum. 9.5" is actually ideal.
