Default This is what happens when you go big HP!!!

Ok guys... I am frustrated and a little let down. So hear me rant

Some of you know that I have been shooting for a big HP (900RWHP) rear mount setup. I have this kind of fantasy of having the fastest rearmount there is......... at least in an F-Body... maybe period.

What I am up against... ITS FUXIN EXPENSIVE!! STS doesnt care to help make their product faster!!! Everything costs 1.5 x what you think it will, and takes 2x longer. I have had my original engine builder (FFHP) close doors on me without warning, causing me a 2-Month delay.... and I am going back to Iraq in 3 months anyways!!! Did I mention its FUXIN EXPENSIVE?!?!

I love seeing shop cars go fast... however I really respect the personally owned cars that push the limits!!

So here is where I am at....

Engine: Erik Koenig is building me a solid 408, will be done sometime next week. 8.9-1 CR, Weisco Pistons, good rings, the whole deal... (I can go into more detail if you want). I will say that any of you looking for a good engine need to contact him!!! He is bar none the best and most competent man I have talked to about engines!

Fuel: I am going to use some notes and pics from Mighty Mouse and others on putting together a dual Walbro 255, -10AN feed, Fast rails, stock feed as return. I am going to run a Versafueler with 83lb injectors (maybe 96lbs... input please! )

Turbo: Please no flames here... some will not agree with me on this but after MANY conversations with Jose (forcedinductions) and others, I am going with Jose's recommendation... a PT-88. Yea.. I know it will lag some... but with 408 cubes, I will run out a 76GTS.

Drivetrain: Ok I really need some help here....

Option 1# I love my 6 speed.... I know that an auto is faster, and stronger, but it isnt funner (is that a word?) I have talked to Amber (T56rebuilds) and learned that even on a built T-56 the limit is 750-800~HP.... and you look at the $1500~ rebuild + $1200~ clutch to hold the HP.. DID I SAY ITS FUXIN EXPENSIVE IN THIS SPORT?

Option #2 CK performance has the GM AOD trans with OD for $3500~. Price is not that different (although $800 bucks is allot to me) but I know the trans is stronger, faster, and will last longer... But its not FUNNER!! (tip: After spending so much on your car you can make up your own words!)

What do you guys think? This is one that is tearing me apart ... I love my stick... I love my streetability of my car... but I dont have a budget like others to rebuild over and over.

Billy is going to do most of my assembly (TRTPerformance) and this is of course keeping me up at night with decisions. So for all of you out there that know me... give me some input!!! I am where I am today with your help, help me take it home!!

PS: Anyone looking to sponsor a car???

My only advice is that the auto is not going to hold or last any longer and will be just as expensive to fix everytime etc... If you want to be the quickest or fastest you need the auto so that should set you strait on what you need. You can't have your cake and eat it too. I am not trying to be the fastest I just want to run with them and I am not giving up my 6spd.

Good luck, its all just beginning..

Figure what the parts will cost, then triple it, then add labor if you are paying someone to do it and you will be pretty close to actual cost

Very nice choice on the motor selection,Eriks the MF'n man, built my 383.He's a blast to talk to as well.Id go 96#ers for 900rwhp.i was told that there is a hp limit for using the stock feed as a return,ie it cant keep up.im not exactly sure what the limit is though off hand.but sounds like a good start

Ditto...as long as you keep the real sticky's off the car I think you'll be okay with the T-56. Put the best clutch in it you can find and you should be okay...for awhile at least. I'm putting in the new Exo-Skell dual-disc from Textralia and as Jeff said, "I am not giving up my 6spd." either...

Brother I am with ya... I love my 6 speed. I dont agree with Jeff's assessment that you will rebuild a Built TH400 as much as a T-56... but our point is the same.

I am kinda thinking that I will go with a built viper conversion T-56 with the same clutch as you. But man... I will be broken hearted if I blow it up. And saying keep the sticky's off and building a 900RWHP car are kinda contradictive to me... JMHO.

Big HP is never cheap We added up PurEvl's parts list from last winter and it was $32k just in parts

There is a bright side, your not going for 7 second 1/4's like me.I'm already at $25k in just the cage, suspension ect.No drivetrain yet

If you switch to auto your going to have to make 100 or so more flywheel hp to overcome the drivetrain loss. So if your goal is mainly the 900 rwhp figure it would be easier with the stick. You would be deadly from a highway roll too.

All Im going to say to this is Boost IMHO is the most expensive mod to do to your car. If you buy the right parts and spend the $ where it counts it will last. But before you know it you have spent 20k. One thing I will never skimp on is the fuel system. Thats the most important system after your paid the price for the motor and blower/turbo kit. Just for my 4l80 conversion so far I have $2519 with what I sold my t56 setup for. But I have broke way to many 6 speeds and I cant afford to front the bill on boost

boost is like crack.....only more expensive!

i would say get an auto....most of them you can manually shift anyways and it will hold the power you want.......but honestly...it would be really really hard for me to ditch my t56.....

good luck either way man......billy is a great guy and i think you will have one hell of a monster either way you go about it!

Keeping the T56 alive is as much a function of how you drive as what level of power you're putting through it. My slightly upgraded 'Vette 6 speed seems to be doing OK at 773 RWHP, but my rear tires (Pilot Sports 335/30-18s) are the safety valve. They blow off if I even think about more than half throttle in third, and fuggedabout first or second.

I'm talking about slicks...using a good drag radial (M/T) or even ET Streets would be a little easier on the drive train...JMHO...from years of breakin' **** with slicks.

****, you're complaining and it hasn't even come together yet? you have alot more to go still.... trouble shooting can add up.

Erik put together my shortblock, and it still holding up to ~1000 rwhp 20,000 miles later The man knows what he is doing.

Shop cars and personal cars are two different leagues... you better have a deep pocket if you're serious.

with that same 900rwhp he will go .2-.3 faster then with his 6 speed...who cares about dyno numbers, right? ETs are the goal?
