Default Overlays...what type of material?

I've got some interesting ideas for my car that I want to attempt and I need to know what material people use for headlight glass/plastic overlays. I've seen vinyl as a popular choice but does anyone know what temperatures it can take? If anyone knows that would def help me out.

My buddy had Vinyl decals made for his T/A in the form of a bird. He put them on the foglights, and needless to say they got too hot and started to slide around while driving.

Vinyl can stand up to fairly high ambient or outside temps if it's a good 5 year outdoor vinyl. However the way to remove most vinyl is by applying heat so if it's in a very hot condition it's not going to stick.

Looking to cover the headlight housings in a way to maybe achieve a really nice cutoff since I have a little bit of glare with my HID's in a halogen housing. I am probably wasting my time, but I'm interested in attempting it. The glare isn't anything to concern oncoming traffic, but I am always trying to make it the best it can be. The housing gets hot from the lamps so I obviously need something that can stay attached in a high heat situation.

High-Temp engine or caliper paint maybe?
You can test out your idea with some black tape first before painting to see if it will help.

there are too many curves at one time for a first timer to apply vinyl to. i would just sand it prime it and paint it

I was going to attempt to make a cardboard template to get an idea or use electrical tape to see if its even gonna work. It's pretty much just a 4x6 piece of glass to cover. I'll have to tinker.
