Default Changing Shift Solenoid, Need help identifiying part

I'm posting on my friends username for him.

He's changing the shift solenoid in a 98 Z28. He doesn't know where this part goes or what it is. Any help. Thanks in advance.

That is a shift valve that goes behind the shift solenoid with a spring in the bore. Skinny end goes in first.

The spring is probably still in the bore. Just make sure it's still in there and install the valve skinny end first.
