Default Aftermarket Fuel Pump+Harness = Worse MPG?

I dont know why this is confusing to me- but an aftermarket fuel system (upgraded pump, wiring harness such as the racetronix kit) does not necessarily mean that you flow more fuel when you dont need it right.. can someone please clarify? I just dont want to lose MPG when upgrading my pump (although it may be inevitable) in preparation to get a nitrous kit.
