Default Broken input shaft?

Searched around and this doesn't look like a problem a stock car should have. Shifted 3-4 at about 90-95 mph and my RPM sky rocket well beyond the stock rev limiter, about 6400-6500. I figure it just popped out of gear and throw it back into nuetral then into 6th after coasting down a bit, but whenever I touched the gas the RPM would jump way up like the clutch was toasted. So I pull it over and call a flatbed, when it gets back to the shop we pull it into the garage, slipping the clutch we were able to get it to move but anything else and you would hear a terrible scraping/grinding coming from the tranny area. It goes into each gear fine, clutch peddle feels perfect, didn't smell anything when it happened. Could I have broken the input shaft on stock power with only 48k miles?
