Ticking @ Idle::How can you tell if Exhaust leak?
O.K Folks, I don't mean to start another "Ticking" thread but how the hell do you know if it's an Exhaust leak? My 98 SS Has 104,500 miles and she has developed a Tick, not only @ Idle, but throughout the RPM range. It's there all the time, Cold or Hot. The car is pretty much stock aside from a catt back system installed years back.
The sound seems to be coming from underneath the car "Drivers side".

For whatever reason, most of the ticking noises seem to be loudest or most noticable from under the drivers side of the car. Many that turned out to be valve train and other noises had that characteristic.
To check for exhaust, it often helps to have someone block off the tailpipes with a rag momentarily while you check around.
Take your time to listen to the frequency and check things.
Common sources for ticking are loose spark plug, exhaust leak, loose spark plug wire, belt or idler pulley, bad rocker, bad lifter, bent push rod, bouncing check valves on the EGR system, etc.

Use a mechanics stethoscope or hold a piece of small diameter hose to your ear and use the other end to search around, you'll find the leak in no time if there is one.
