Default 6 speed trans problem help!

ok i have a 99 camaro ss. 6 speed. new tranny. supposedly.. an a semi new clutch. the pedal has been really soft latly.. an the past couple days im not able to get it into gear.. reverse is the hardest. il have the clutch pedal all the way in. an when i try to put it in 6th the car damn near stalls an starts rolling back alil. same with 1st. a friend of mine looked under the hood. to check the fluid in the cylinder he said, an he noticed that the cap for it was broken. an he said that could be the reason its not holding pressure.. is there any truth to that? or what do you guys think?

You probably have air in the system...
I think the broken cap is not the direct cause of the problem, but I'd replace it.

If there's air in the system, power bleed it. It worked in my case.

Busted cap could have resulted in water/air in the fluid it. flush the fluid and bleed the clutch. Replace the cap.
