Cool 5.3l to 5.7

Nubie here,I was thinking of doing an ls1 swap in my s10.To keep cost down couldn't I get a 5.3l short block bore it out,put new pistons in it or put some use ls6 pistons in it to make it an iron block 5.7l.On top I would go with a pair of ls6 heads with a 01-02 ls6 intake and a 97-98 fuel rail and built in regulator.Would the 5.3l block idea work.

I've heard of people doing it, but things might get a bit thin for my taste, S10 / small radiator vs thin block = **** you off! Id just find a 6.0l and put the ls6 heads on that, if you want to run an iron block. By the time you buy a 5.3 and ls6 pistons youd be money ahead, unless you allready have the 5.3/5.7 stuff.

you'll be fine with boreing the 5.3 to a 5.7.
find you a used rotating assembly out of a 5.7 and slap on some new rod and main bearings and new rings for the pistons.
sounds like your on the right track. and the 97/98 rail has the regulator built in it. that's what i'm using to do the ls6 intake swap on my truck.

That's incredible, I would have never imagined you could have bored a Gen III from 3.780" to a 3.898" bore! That's 118 thousandths! Sounds expensive to have a production block bored that much, and that's assuming your first block [4.8L] passes a sonic check to take it out that much.

Didn't realize I'd have to bore it out that far and if thats the case sounds thin to me.Has anybody gone that route?
