Default First Dyno Session for the Vortech 4DR

Due to some unexpected events, yesterday I had a chance to dyno the car for the 1st time ever. Apex Motorsports in Santa Clara was having a group dyno day for NastyZ28's.com and when someone dropped off the list I scooped up their spot.

I built up this setup from a bare GMPP HD 4-bolt block and a small Vortech V-2 SQ S-trim blower:

Current Motor Shot

It's a 383 with good heads (Edelbrock E-TEC 200 ported by me), a small solid roller (230/236, 112LSA, net lift .575/584), 9.6:1 CR, LT's, true dual 3" exhaust, Holley 950 Commander Pro w/wideband & 75# RC injectors, large FMIC.

I can only get about 7.2# of boost out of this blower, after the FMIC and throttle. I basically outgrew it before I even bought it, without knowing.

I tried 3 runs: 1st was in second gear, unlocked converter on the 4L80E; 2nd was in third gear, also unlocked; the best was in third, with it locking up around 5000.

The Results of the 3rd run were the best:

501rwhp at 5800

470rwt at 5250

I was pretty happy to break 500, since I had no idea where this thing would come in. I wish I had tried raising the shift point of the 80E because the chart looks like it was holding the HP level nice and flat, but it shifted exactly where it was programmed, at 6250.

Next step: Upgrade to the V-2 SQ T-trim. I've heard this was the approximate equivalent of moving from the P1SC to the D1SC. I'll be happy if I can choose a daily boost in the 10# range, with maybe a couple pounds left over for a pulley change for the track. Or maybe I'll hook up the nitrous...

I hope to post a video of the 3rd run in the next week or so.

Anyways, I've learned a lot from this site and the people here.

500 isnt bad for that little blower, if you lock the converter the whole way you will get a little better peak HP number on a dynojet I have found. Thats really not too bad considering the 4L80 sucks a good ampunt of HP.
