Default Chrome chipping off rims

Anybody ever have the chrome chipping off of your rims due to a burnout? I did a burnout today (video will be posted shortly) and it knocked a bunch of chrome off of my back wheels. WTF!?

The chrome may have already been pealing/weak for other reasons. Not sure why you'd have that issue in LA, but that's happened to chrome wheels I've had in the past that were exposed to salt in the winter. I doubt you have snow/salt where you live, but maybe a previous owner of the car/wheels was from the north?
