Oil pan change? help please
Just making sure
It's possible to change out the oil pan while the motor is in the car right?
It doesn't look like to hard of a job.
Heres the deal
the plug for the oil pan is cross threaded. It just keeps turning and its not going anywhere.
Any suggestions?????

Talking about the oilpan drain plug, right?? If thats the only problem, is it possible to tap/thread/replace it with a slightly larger bolt and call it a day?

I have my motor out right now but, its my first time ever doing this and I dont remember off the top of my head... I think you might have to pull the timing cover... not sure... we were pulling everything off my motor just to swap over onto my new longblock.... tapping the hole for a bigger bolt would be the easiest way to go. Someone else will have to chime in about pulling the pan.

I am pretty sure that you have to unbolt the motor at the mounts jack it up a little then loosin the 6 botls to the k member and lower it a little. then loosen the pan bolts and fanaggle the pan out. make sure not to bend the pickup while doing this.

We pulled the pan off with the motor dangling from a cherry-picker and after tons of other parts where pulled off first.... Even then, my pan didn't just pop right off, it took some wiggling and careful coercion.
