Carbon pitting on the valve seats???
Can carbon pitting on the valve seats affect head performance? I had a shop that was flowing my heads, and checking combustion chamber intake and exhaust runner cc's, tell me I should have a valve job because of pitting. The way I understand it since our engines have the tendency to suck oil through the PCV system that the oil builds up and is carbonized on the back of the valves. This build up then causes pitting on the valve seat. I usually go through a quart of oil about every 5,000 miles and the intake and intake runners were wet with oil and oil residue. Did a search found nothing.
