Default Car Dies at 5000 RPM's

I just bought a 1998 Trans am. While driving normally, the car does just fine, but when I get into and and the Rpm's climb around 5K, the car will just flat die. It will make a pop through the intake, and throw a code for Mass Air. Once I come to a stop, the car will fire right back up with no problems. It seems to be worse when the car has been running awhile. Sometimes when I do this when the car hasn't been running long, it doesn't shut off. Does this sound like a fuel pump problem?
Thanks,
Donnie

The pop thru the intake is defineatly a lean mixture sign. Put a fuel pressure guage on it. I think the pressure is suppose to be 45psi, but I am not sure. See what the pressure does. If it seems fine at idle, try to setup the fuel pressure guage so you can see it while drivin, and go drive around with it.

My car did the same thing. Turned out to be a brokn valve spring. Ive broken 3 springs now - lucky they were all duals- but they were the wrong springs for the car as it turned out.

How did the car die? DId it start sputtering or did it flat out turn off? I think I have had the same thing happen to me.
