Default so i need a new engine... where should i go?

So I recently had the motor on my camaro go out (it started knocking and when I was trying to do a compression test it locked up. I havent tore it down to find out why yet...) so I'm going to be looking for a new one. I'm looking to get another engine in there for less than 5000, but I dont want to have this happen again so im kind of wary of putting a stock shortblock in it, Ive heard bad things about the stock rods and the guy that owns the shop its at thinks thats what went on it from the sound of things. Im not planning on buying anything until I get that motor out so i can figure out what happened. But does anyone have any suggestions on what route I should go? I only occasionaly go to the track (although I might like to go a little more often in the future) but I do drive it hard. Im mostly looking for dependability in it. thanks

Get a TSP shortblock for under 3K, swap it, then sell your old parts to make some $$ back. Throw heads/cam on if you wanna spend the extra $$.

Luckily for you, we have lots of excellent sponsors. You should call a few and get prices and most importantly, time lines, then make your decision.

SDPC, TSP, etc. All the sponsors here should be able to hook you up with a great deal.
