your top speed will be whatever you redline at in 5th. so 160mph or something around there. 6th gear is useless without nitrous or heads and cam that will let you propel that little .50:1 gear.

I've heard reports of people topping 172mph in a m6 car (not sure if TA's are better or worse than Camaro's though in drag CO and frontal area).

C5 Vette's will top just over 180mph stock but they weigh less and have better aerodynamics.

Stock you should be near 160mph, even my 2.73 geared auto will bang the 158mph quite convincingly which is 3rd gear @ 5650rpm. Reckon if I removed the limiter it would pull the best part of 165mph before running out of revs.

3rd with an auto is 1:1 ratio so an exelent gear. In you m5 5th is actually 0.74:1 so it's a bit taller. 158mph should be about 5250rpm in 5th. It's still a fairly strong part of the rev range although torque will be starting to drop off.

172mph would be 5700rpm in 5th. And if you could get it to pull 6000rpm in 5th that would be 181mph (stock C5 top speed). However I don't think stock you'll have enough power to overcome the aero drag and weight.

A good bolt on m6 LS1 should have no problem topping 180mph and chuck a cam in there and up the rev limit and 190mph is perfectly feasible with stock gearing.
