99 SS had clear engine bay???
Well I just bought another SS and I didnt notice it at first but the whole engine bay has been cleared. I did a carfax on it before I bought it and checked it over really well and it doesnt appear on paper or to the eye that it has ever been wrecked. But whether it be from the factory somehow or by someone else they did a hell of a job on it. Can anyone help explain this???

do you mean "cleaned?"
it's not unknown for some people to have the engine bay steam-cleaned before selling it, just like detailing the rest of the car. So it could mean nothing.

Its probably got a different engine in it. They might have scuffed up the engine bay taking the old engine out so they just went ahead and re-painted it and decided to clear it...maybe, just throwing out a possibility.

back on topic though... there could be a lot of reasons why it was cleared. it's definitely cool too, that's one of the things that always bugged me about the engine bay is how dull the paint looks.

good possibility they had the engine out and while it's out and you have the funds, its almost stupid not to get it done, i had my engine bay painted to match the new color scheme, clear coat and all when i was getting my engine rebuilt (among other things). We have painted one engine bay while it was still in the car but you get overspray on a lot of the bolts, look for that unless they taped off every single bolt.

You may like it now.. just wait a few years when the heat and engine fluids take its toll. the clear will yellow, crack, and chip off and you will change your mind real quick on how great it is.

I dont think peeling and discoloration will be a problem. It is stored inside and doesnt get drive in bad weather so hopefully it shouldt be a problem.
