Default Did the 94 T/A have a FIVE SPEED ?????

I just had a 94 T/A offered to me for $1,500. It runs. It is white with t-tops and grey interior with four wheel disc. It needs paint. It has the funky three spoke swirl rims and good tires. It hasn't been driven in a couple of years and has a bad fuel pump. It will need paint asap.

Anyway...It has a FIVE speed in it. I looked under the hood and feel comfortable it is a factory LT1 car. The trans is a five and has a five speed shifter plate on the console. They tell me second gear synchro is bad.

Is this possible?

I thought all the manual V8 cars in the 4th gen were six speeds.

I need to make a decision quick, and if it had a six that would be a no-brainer,..but something doesn't seem right here.

Something isnt right here. All V-8 F-bods 1993-2002 were T-56 6 speed transmissions. V-6 cars had 5 speeds though.

Did they change the plate shift though the gears and actually see if it had 6 gears. If it is an lt1 and a 5 speed, somebody did some non-factory work and put that in there.

A'94 T/A manual would have come with a T56. It may have been pulled for a T5 from an earlier model. It also could have a T5 from a V6. The ratios( and torque capacity) are different between the V8 & V6 T5s. A v6 T5 will not last long in a T/A.

He told me second gear synchro is bad...so maybe it is a T5 that has been hosed from the extra torque.

I need to call him today (my brother works there) and ask him to rowe it through the gears and see if there is a 6th there that they are not even reach for (assuming reverse is in the same spot on a 5 and 6 speed trans...otherwise that would blow that theory.

If it is a T5, I might offer him like $900 for the whole car and part it out.
