Default Printed misinformation- "LS6" 12553696 and L92 12589774 valve springs

In preperation for installing my LS6 cam in my L33 5.3L motor, I read in my How to Build High Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s on page 45 that the LS6 valve spring part # was 12553696. When I put this number in on GM Parts Direct, I got a 12589774 as a replacement. This shows as a stock L92 spring. I did some research here and I found this info here from SDPC regarding the L92 springs:

This means either the info in the book is wrong (this appears to be the case since they list the LS1 spring as the same number) or GM used a substandard replacement part.

I wanted to post this here in the event someone else is planning to use the info from the book.

GM updates their parts by doing that. When they stop making a product (ie LS1 springs) they have the part number automatically crossreferenced to a current production product that will fit the same application.

So the LS1 springs may have been different, but they don't make them anymore and to make it easier for parts counter workers, they automatically foreword the part number to a current version that will suffice.
