Default What's the best way to ship a torque converter?

I'd like to sell my vig3200 torque converter. Right now I have it sitting in my garage full of oil with a cap on it. when I go to ship it, should i leave all the oil in or empty it or what? Thanks

empty it cause if it leaks it will get stuck and fedex, ups or dhl will all refuse to move it further and you will either have to drive and get it where ever its at or loose it. And you could also get fined.

flip it over on top of a bucket and let it drain over night.

put the cap on it, stick it in a box, add plenty of packing material, write "THIS SIDE UP" on the box, and send out the door.

I built a wooden crate for mine... bolted it in the bottom and packed the **** out of it with some high density foam and capped it... I even put a hose clamp on the cap so it wouldnt come off... it got there safe an sound and only cost a couple more $$ to ship. didnt cost me **** for the box... built it out of an old pallet.

I'm wondering, this converter has been sitting sealed for a year. Is it still okay to put in a car or does it need to go to a tranny shop to be flushed out?
thanks for the help guys

you can flush it yourself. its the same thing a tranny shop would do. just turn it over and drain the fluid for several hours, turn it back over, pour some paint thinner (mineral spirits) in there, swish it around, let it sit a lil while, then just turn it back over and let it drain once again. it'll be fine.

actually, i was told to use paint thinner OR gasoline but i feel more comfortable with paint thinner.

I just put a stock converter back in my car (sending SS converter back to Yank for reapair) and it was sitting in my garage for 4 years un capped. I have the tranny shop flush it and it works great.
