sounds like the carrier bearings are worn like every other 10 bolt ive rebuilt.when the carrier bearings wear out it messes with the backlash on the ring and pinion.get yourself a master rebuild kit for when you do the gear swap.

Could be the outside axle bearing does it sound like its coming from one side have pulled out the drivers side on many of this 10 bolts and axle was pitted up badly where bearing rides causing noise.

Does the pitch change with speed ??
Id say it can either be a pinion or a carrier bearing. Carrier bearings normally are more of a growl, not a ring. Its either that, or your gearset is on the way out from the pre-load going away from a carrier bearing as stated above.

Just get a ring and pinion and deluxe install kit. The deluxe kits come with every new bearing and seal in the rear including axle bearings. They run about $120. If your not doing it yourself be prepared for at least $300 in labor to do the job though.

if it changes when you let off and on the gas it's one of the pinion bearings. The
bigger one, closest to the pinion head takes all the load when you're on the gas.
More than likely that is your bad bearing making all the noise.
