Default Need help in deciding on a swap

I think this is where this post should go.

Right now I drive a 1998 3.8l v6 auto Camaro. It has close to 105k miles. The body is still in great shape, so instead of selling it, I am thinking about an engine swap.

I found a local guy with an f-body junkyard, he has everything possible that would be needed and he works on the f-bodies mainly for a living. He offered me a complete LS1 with 6 speed and a 3:42 rear with 42k miles, fully installed for 5,000, or with an auto for 4,000.

I mainly need to know if this is a good deal or am I being ripped off. I have been told by several to not let this go, but what do you think? Thanks!

That is a good deal.. It will cost you almost that much for a good engine/trans combo in the 1st place (I think $3,500 is about avg) and if that include the labor and other required parts (fuel tank, radiator, lines, etc.), a rear end w/brakes is another $500-1500.

do it now before he raise the price. Dose he have any engine / trans for sale that he will ship at a good price ?

GO FOR IT! Follow up on the work, but even if he does a hatchet job, you are way ahead. Most of us are paying close to that just to get the engine and trans!
