Default TA cover question

I noticed that I'm leaking oil out of the allen on the cover. When i got the car the cover was all ready on. so my question is......

when first setting these up....do you loosen the nut, tighten the allens, then tighten the bolts back up?

sorry if this is a stupid question.

I think you got it backward. First, back out the preload studs so they don't touch the main bearing caps. Then install all bolts. Tighten the preload studs and nuts last. You can apply some thead sealer to the stud threads to prevent any leakage there.
