you might have the record lol. never heard of an LT1 makin it that long, but i guess everyone on here is rebuilding them at 100k miles for a performance gain, so few people on here know what they will get to before they finally give in.

it all depends on how long that opti last. the motor will prolly run for ever but the opti just isnt able to last that long. It is a 350 after all

well the motor wont last forever without being rebuilt, bearings, seals, rings, cylinder walls, and other things that involve friction will wear out eventually. ur saying an LT1 will go a 500,000 miles with just a bunch of optis?

Yes,Lt1 can go to 500miles and more like alot of engines,if you change the oil on time and don´t race, they last alot of miles

Piston speed(rpm) is what kills engines along with lazy owners

I've seen a dodge turbo diesel break a million miles with the factory rings.

I've got 160k for miles, had to do head gaskets though. Going to have a lot less miles here fairly soon though. Probably put another 5-10k on it before the changes. Oh yeah I am almost never nice to it, I really like to watch that shift light go off.

seen them go 287k, with modifications and track weekly...and the only reason it let go is headgasket was seeping

heard of many over 300k....

optis highest i think iver heard of is 200k

most any late model fuel injected motor can last over 300k, as long as you dont spin a bearing, rings are fine thats why we have things called MAF and O2, they dont run rich and wash out the nrings like carberated motors...which is why they dont last as long..

I worked on a 95 Fleetwood with 430,000 miles that was in for a burnt valve. It appeared that the heads had never been off. On average, the stretch limos would do 250K easy, the short cars more like 350K.

A school mate's 454 had over 500K, and I saw a Volvo I5 diesel with over a million and still running.

It is a distributor and therefore a wear item, are you so stupid you feel spark plugs wearing out is a bad thing too????

I have 211K on my wagon 28" tires 2.93 gears 4672lbs base curb weight and a 5000lbs tow rating means it is always under a fair load.

Well i think that the waterpumps are crap.. both times i replaced them it was because the bearing dissapeared. The first time i forgot to put the coupling on and was scratchin my head for a while.

I have 165k on mine. It sees redline every time I drive it.
I want to build a monster engine for it but I just can't bear to pull the old motor out till it pukes.

Great thread, I've been wondering about this too.

I've got a ex-cop camaro with 129k that is going through the process of a rear mount turbo system install.

I'm hoping the stock bottom end will hold 6-8lbs of boost for at least a little while before she ***** the bed.

I'll let you guys know what happens.

I have seen all types of numbers.
My old man is retired used car dealer, and I would always check out the mileage on LT1's, L98's, and LS1's.
I have seen 160K+ several times, and a couple 220K+ for LT1's.
And what is all this crap about an Opti? Its just a distributor, they can be changed 100 times if need be, that has nothing to do with the life of the engine.

I think with oil changes every 3000 miles, good driving for the most part and regular maintainence, its pretty easy to get 200K out of an LT1.

A guy on camaroz28.com recently killed his FINALLY after 330K+ miles (F-body). B-body LT1s seem to just go forever though, as it seems there are more of those over 300k. I personally had a 95 9C1 that I purchased with 156k miles and owned until 254k miles until I sold it to a friend. Besides normal wear (tires, rotors/calipers, spark plugs and fluids) I replaced only a power steering pump. Even the trans was great the whole time I owned it, but I heard that a lot of departments rebuild them at 100k miles so it could have been pretty fresh.
