LT1 engines are externally balanced. That means the flywheel has to be installed in a particular relation to the engine so it's "heavy spot" counters the heavy spot on the crank in the engine. The dowel is used to make sure that happens. LS1s are internally balanced, meaning the crank is already balanced and everything connected to it also needs to be balanced (referred to as neutral balanced). Sounds to me like you have an LS1 flywheel. If you bold that up to an LT1 engine your bottom end is going to try and shake itself to pieces and probably do quite a bit of damage.

Damn, sorry, completely misread the post. I thought you were talking about a dowel from the crank to the flywheel. What's the part number on the flywheel I'll check it against mine. If I remember right I think there was 1 dowel that wasn't on my flywheel also.

That's the same number as my flywheel and a search shows that as the correct RAM number too.

Default ram clutch

ram clutches don't have a dowel hole. just take the dowel out of ur flywheel and bolt it up. i have one and that's what ram told me to do.
