Default Head studs

Anyone have experience with them I am thinking about using them for my build. Are there any problems I might encounter with them being that I am building this to be a street car.

they never seal perfectly, there is always a coolant leak in one place or another. Unless your building an all out race car you will be fine with bolts. In that case I do recommend a nice set of ARP head bolts.

if you use studs you can not get the heads off in the car, you have to pull the motor.

"they never seal perfectly, there is always a coolant leak in one place or another"

I've used studs on all my engine builds. Granted, it's about a dozen but I've yet to have a problem with coolant leakage. If there's "always" a problem with leakage, why do they make and sell them?

"if you use studs you can not get the heads off in the car"

Not true. Head studs have a internal allen that you can use to screw them into the block with the heads in place.

I would agree, head studs may not be needed on a street car. I like them and use them without any problems.

Good sealant on the threads is important as is the cleanliness of the block threads. Also, FelPro has a line of MLS head gaskets that offer additional sealing around the bolt through-holes.
