Default Transmission Switch

Is the transmission range switch required for anything other than reverse lights and Park or Neutral only starting? I am wanting to use linkage to shift my transmission and the bracket won't fit on the shifter shaft with the switch on there....

The one plug is for the reverse lights and other crap that has nothing to do with the PCM, the other plug goes to the PCM tells the PCM what gear the trans selector lever is in. When I was doing my swap I originally was going to run a TH350 trans and asked around to find out if the trans range switch was needed. No one was able to give me an definite answer, so I ended up just grabbing a truck 4l60e. I still don`t have a definite answer of what is affected if you get rid of that switch.

Todays guess.. It might indicate the selection of overdrive which would allow the electric converter lock-up to function.. just a guess.

All it has is the park neutral switch and back up lights and the switched to control the prndl on the cluster of the newer 95 up trucks. There is one wire and orange with a black that signals the pcm to bump up the idle a hair when it goes into gear. It does not affect the tcc lockup.
