Default cam gurus, please chime in

for my 383 build i narrowed it down to two custom cams that have been prescribed for me (239/244 .649/.612 on a 112+2) and the (238/240 .605/.609 on a 112+2) now just by looking at the cam specs: do these cams seem like they would have peaky power or more hp under the curve? which would you choose and why? i called comp cams cam help hotline, and that gentleman said id be best with my original cam from my 346 (the torquer v2) which i was told would not be big enough. any insight?

What are your goals for the car?

ok, in my opinion the 239/244 is way off.

Your choice should be between the Torquer 2 and the 238/240.

The torquer 2 will make slight more midrange and have better driving manners while the 238/240 will really take over after 5500 rpm.

I see the tq2 making peak Hp @ 5600 rpm peak tq at 4400 rpm
the 238/248 will peak around 6000rpm and carry. peak tq at 4600rpm

my goals for the car is to gain lots more torque than i previously had. which should be no problem with the added cubic inches.. i liked the drivability of the tq2 when it was in my old set up. i dont really run the rpms up too much seeing that the car spends 95% of the time on the street. and 90% of that is just for cruising (the wife likes going along, a.k.a. i cant play too much with her in the car) but when i do get to the track i dont want to fall on my face in the 1/4 mile. i want my cake and eat it too damn it ! lol ok so im being greedy. but hey, if im paying for it, i may as well make as close to what i want as i can. i think power under the curve is very important, more so than peaky power. id like a continuous pull through all the gears if thats possible

The 238-248 will behave like the tq2 did in your 346 as far as driveability.

From what you described it would be your best choice. Any reason for not getting a Custom Cam Spec'd for your combo?

With the excellent exhaust flow of the AFR heads and the long tubes with off road exhaust, you will not want or need to spread the exhaust lobe too much when running the LS6 intake. If you were running a FAST 90/90, then you could either go 2 degrees smaller on the intake (for more low/mid range punch) or go 2 degrees larger on the exhaust (for more top-end power).

But when running a 383 with the LS6 intake and excellent exhaust, a small split or even a single pattern will work great!
